BFL Grease Clean Powder

Download Data Sheet

Applications: Fats, oils, greases

Grease, fats and oil in kitchen drains, grease traps and pump sumps cause a number of major problems. The problems arising from grease in drainage systems include:

  • Blocked drains
  • Bad smells
  • Slow draining sinks
  • Regular grease trap pumping
  • Flooding
  • Increased maintenance on pump sumps

These grease related problems result in considerable expense on emergency maintenance and inconvenience in kitchen operation. Traditional methods include the use of specialist contactors for rodding and suction or hazardous chemicals to dissolve grease and move it further down the sewer where it becomes a problem for the local authority.

BFL Grease Clean Powder harnesses the power of environmental biotechnology to solve the problems caused by grease in drainage systems in a completely safe and natural way. BFL Grease Clean Powder contains a blend of harmless, natural micro-organisms that have the ability to degrade grease. This degradation process ensures that grease is destroyed and can't reform further down the drain.

The benefits of treatment of drainage systems with BFL Grease Clean Powder include:

  • Free flowing drains
  • Eliminates bad odours
  • Reduces frequency of grease trap emptying
  • Removes grease from pump sumps
  • Increases hygiene by eliminating flies
  • Reduced drain maintenance
  • Safe for people and the environment
  • Planned maintenance costs

What is BFL Grease Clean Powder?

BFL Grease Clean Powder is a powder product that contains a wide range of micro-organisms that have been specially selected for their ability to efficiently degrade grease. They also are efficient in degrading other food waste materials. These bacteria produce a range of enzymes that degrade grease, starch, protein and plant fibres (cellulose). The formulation also contains a small quantity of free enzymes that start the process of degradation until the bacteria start to produce their own. The key to the degradation of grease and other compounds that are not water-soluble is the production of biosurfactants. This helps to emulsify the grease so that it can be degraded more efficiently. The bacteria in BFL Grease Clean Powder have been selected for their ability to produce biosurfactants. A small quantity of biodegradable surfactant is included to start the process until the bacteria produce biosurfactants to continue the degradation process.

    Directions for use

BFL Grease Clean Powder is a powder product on a cereal base that is provided in the form of sachets for ease of dosing. Empty the contents of the sachet into a bucket (10 litre) of lukewarm water (~30oC), stir well and allow to stand for at least 30 minutes before dosing. BFL Grease Clean Powder should be dosed directly at the inlet end of the grease trap or pump sump. It can also be dosed through sinks and floor drains in kitchens.

Applications for BFL Grease Clean Powder

BFL Grease Clean Powder is typically used for the treatment of large grease traps and pump sumps. When used in pump sumps on a regular basis it has a beneficial effect down line at the inlet works where it significantly reduces grease on surfaces. BFL Grease Clean Powder is totally compatible with domestic sewage treatment plants and, in fact, works to help the performance of biological treatment by starting the degradation of organic materials such as fats and grease.

    Product safety

The micro-organisms in Grease Clean Powder have all been isolated from natural environments. They have not been genetically modified in any way. These micro-organisms have been classified as being harmless to humans, animals and plants. The product is subjected to independent testing to ensure that it is free of Salmonella and other contaminants.
