Oil spills on concrete, paved areas, garage forecourts and driveways create an unsightly stain on the surface. Since the oil doesn't mix with water it can't be simply washed away. The traditional solution to this problem is to use a blend of solvents and surfactants that are hazardous to use and which create problems in interceptors and drains because they are very difficult to degrade. BFL Oil Clean provides an alternative to traditional approaches to the removal of these stains. It combines the benefits of biodegradable surfactants with the advantages of microbial technology at a neutral pH.
The primary cleaning action is conducted by a blend of biodegradable surfactants and wetting agents together with a natural citrus extract. The combined action of these components helps to emulsify and mobilise the oil so that it can be removed from the surface. When the oil is emulsified the bacteria can more readily degrade it. The bacterial strains in the product have been specially selected for their ability to efficiently degrade oil remaining on the surface and it continues this process as it passes down the drains and into oil interceptors or the main sewer.

The product is supplied as a concentrate and should be diluted before use.
The age, severity and extent of the spill influence the application of the product.
For general staining dilute the product by adding 1 litre to 4 litres of clean water. Apply the product to thoroughly wet the affected area. The key to mobilising the oil is to use a lot of agitation. Scrub it in vigorously using a deck scrub or brush with stiff bristles. Leave in contact with the surface for at least 30 minutes. Wash or hose down with clean water.
For more persistent stains leave the product in contact with the surface overnight before washing off.
For old, heavy stains dilute the product 1:1 with clean water.
A number of successive applications may be necessary to remove more persistent stains. On porous surfaces when the surface stain has been removed more oil can be drawn to the surface by capillary action.
Best and most consistent results are obtained using scrubbing machines.
Do not use BFL Oil Clean on tarmac surfaces.
Product safety
The product contains no harsh chemicals such as acid, caustic or solvents. The components of the product are biodegradable in accordance with OECD guidelines.
The micro-organisms in BFL Oil Clean are all isolated from natural environments. They have not been genetically modified in any way. These microbial strains have been classified as being harmless to humans, animals and plants. The product is subjected to independent testing to ensure that it is free of Salmonella and other contaminants.
