BFL OilCept is a product specifically formulated to accelerate the biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons in oil interceptors. BFL OilCept reduces the maintenance time and costs associated with the management of such systems. As the oil accumulates on the surface of the water in the interceptor, it forms an insulating layer which prevents oxygen from getting to the lower layers. The result is generation of anaerobic conditions. Associated with anaerobic conditions are foul odours and sulphides which as well as scavenging available oxygen, also form corrosive compounds.
BFL OilCept harnesses the natural ability of certain micro-organisms to biodegrade petroleum hydrocarbons. The result is a well managed interceptor using natural methods to breakdown the hydrocarbons and remove the possibility of anaerobic conditions developing.
Typical interceptors include those commonly encountered in service stations and garage forecourts.
What is BFL OilCept?BFL OilCept contains a wide spectrum of micro-organisms that have been specifically selected for their capabilities to biologically breakdown the petroleum hydrocarbons normally encountered in oil interceptors. The breakdown products are such that they eventually result in the formation of harmless compounds such as CO2 and water.
These micro-organisms have all been isolated from natural environments, grown as pure cultures, stabilized and blended to produce a high quality product suitable for use in an oil interceptor.
BFL OilCept contains macro and micro-nutrients to help address the lack of suitable nutrients in the oil interceptor. These nutrients allow the micro-organisms to grow and multiply in large numbers, thus facilitating the production of desirable biosurfactants and enzymes, all of which assist, promote and accelerate the biodegradation process.
In addition, BFL OilCept contains a small quantity of a biodegradable surfactant, which promotes the initial mobilization of the oil prior to the micro-organisms producing their own biosurfactant. Biosurfactant is required to emulsify the oil so that it is readily available for microbial attack.
Directions for useBFL OilCept must be activated prior to use. To achieve this, place 1 part product in 9 litres clean, lukewarm water (temperature not in excess of 30oC), stir initially and leave to stand for 1 hour with occasional stirring. The product can then be added to a drain which feeds directly into the interceptor. After dosing, flush the drain with lukewarm water to ensure the product enters the interceptor.
For standard oil interceptors, the dosage is 1 x 250 g sachet BFL OilCept once per week for the first 4 weeks followed by 1 sachet per month thereafter. However, as each situation is evaluated on an individual basis a specific dosing progamme will be devised for each site.
Product safetyThe micro-organisms in BFL OilCept have all been isolated from natural environments. They have not been genetically modified in any way. These microbial strains have been classified as being harmless to humans, animals and plants. The product is subjected to independent testing to ensure that it is free of Salmonella and other contaminants.
